Pre-Private

Pre-Private is a course designed exclusively by Anglicus,  for Year 6 students in Greek schools who plan to attend an English-speaking private secondary school. Using a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach, the course combines subject-based content with language development.

Its primary purpose is to prepare students to successfully follow lessons conducted entirely in English, whether through teacher explanations, lectures, or subject-specific textbooks. The course develops the academic vocabulary and learning approaches students will encounter in an English-medium environment, while also focusing on strategies for understanding and answering questions in tests and assessments. While the course will naturally support preparation for entrance exams, its main aim is to equip students with the language skills needed to manage the academic demands of the English school system.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand and use key academic vocabulary across core subjects

  • Follow and engage with lessons, lectures, and textbooks presented in English

  • Interpret different types of exam and assessment questions accurately

  • Structure clear and appropriate responses in written tasks

  • Demonstrate increased confidence in an English-speaking classroom environment

What is the CLIL approach and how is it applied?

We help students learn English through real school subjects. In our Pre-Private programme, students practice English using subject based comprehension texts linked to the accademic subjects they will encounter in a Private English school. These include the main accademic subjects, which will allow them to learn important accademic volabulary in context, just as they will in a Private English school. This approach is known as CLIL - a method widely used in English international schools.

Requirements

Learners need to be in Year 6 of primary school and have completed an examination whereby the results demonstrate that the learner has satisfactorily achieved the A1 levelor equivalent. If no examination has been taken, then an on-site assessment will be required to determine the student’s level.

“This programme exists because, after 24 years of teaching inside private English schools, I saw the same problems again and again!

Students didn’t struggle because they weren’t intelligent — they struggled because no one had prepared them for how subjects are taught in English. I designed this course specifically to bridge that gap, using the exact types of texts, tasks, and vocabulary students face in private secondary schools.

It’s not something you’ll find in standard language institutes, because it’s based on experience from inside the system - helping learners bridge the gap, build confidence and be ready for the real world.
